My Professional Background

Education

  • McGill University (B.Sc.);
  • Université de Montréal (LL.B. and J.D.)

Memberships

  • The Law Society of Ontario (LSO);
  • The Criminal Lawyers’ Association (CLA);
  • The Defence Counsel Association of Ottawa (DCAO).
  • Why I became a defence lawyer

    I chose to become a defence lawyer although I have started off my career as an Assistant Crown Attorney because I want to help people who are facing criminal charges. I know that whether you are facing the criminal justice system for the first time or whether you already have had dealings with it, it is never an easy thing to be accused of a crime and most importantly it is always a scary place to be in. You may find that many people you know and rely on for support will want to keep their distance from you once you are charged with a criminal offence. Yet, you probably need these people the most to help you understand the criminal process and to be by your side. You do not have to worry about facing this process alone. I will help you throughout the process and will do my best to give you the best possible result.

  • What I did before becoming a defence lawyer

    Before becoming a criminal defence lawyer, I have worked in a Crown’s Office. I have thus had experience working as a prosecutor and this experience has given me a comprehensive understanding of the criminal justice system. Moreover, my experience working with the Crown has allowed me to understand how the police work, as I have had the opportunity to work directly with them.

Why Choose Shukairy Law?
